DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Red Wings had the night off following their 3-2 win Sunday in Detroit over Tampa Bay. Tomorrow night, the Red Wings host Boston at Joe Louis Arena.
Meanwhile, a narrowly-approved new Red Wings lease with the City of Detroit for Joe Louis Arena is expected to last until a new facility for the hockey team opens adjacent to downtown. The City Council voted five-to-four for a retroactive five-year deal that expires in June of 2015, with options for one-year renewals. Critics questioned whether the team's settlement of a dispute over cable TV revenue was sufficient, if restrictions on arena use after the team moves are appropriate, and how Detroit could afford the building demolition cost.
