WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- There's evidence that General Motors approved ignition switches that are linked to over a dozen deaths, even though the parts didn't appear to meet the company's specifications.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee released a report Sunday that also indicates the automaker considered addressing the ignition switch problem, but a GM engineer said it would be "close to impossible to modify the present ignition switch."  GM has recalled over two-million vehicles because of the ignition switch problem.

Republican Tim Murphy leads a subcommittee of the House panel and says documents provided by GM and a federal regulator provided "unsettling" information. GM Chief Executive Mary Barra is scheduled to appear before the committee Tuesday to answer questions about the recall.
