DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - Make it back-to-back walk-off wins for the Tigers over the Royals to open the season. Yesterday afternoon at Comerica Park, Detroit edged Kansas City 2-1 in ten innings to follow up Monday’s 4-3 victory. Newcomer second baseman and lead off hitter Ian Kinsler was the hero for the Tigers on Wednesday. He homered in the fourth and singled in the winning run with 2 outs in the tenth. Max Scherzer struck out seven over eight innings of four-hit shutout ball in a no-decision for Detroit. Joe Nathan blew the save, allowing a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth that tied the game at one for Kansas City. Al Albuquerque got the win.
The Tigers this afternoon will try to make it a sweep of the 3 game series from the Royals with Anibal Sanchez on the mound for Detroit.
The Chicago White Sox are 2-0 after their 7-6, eleven-inning win Wednesday over the Minnesota Twins while the Chicago Cubs fell in 16-innings last night 4-3 at Pittsburgh.
