NEW YORK, NY (WTVB) - The Minnesota Golden Gophers won the NIT Championship last night, beating the SMU Mustangs 65-63 at Madison Square Garden. Minnesota ends the season at 25-and-13.
it's Final Four weekend in Arlington, Texas with Florida, Connecticut, Wisconsin and Kentucky set to compete at AT&T Stadium. The top-seeded Gators go up against the seventh seeded U-Conn Huskies in the semi-final opener tomorrow night followed by the second-seeded Badgers of Wisconsin against the eighth-seeded Wildcats.
Florida is riding a 30-game winning streak going back to December 2nd when the Gators lost 65-64 at UConn. The Huskies rallied from nine points down in the second half to knock off Michigan State in the Elite Eight. The Badgers beat top-seeded Arizona in overtime to advance to give head coach Bo Ryan his first Final Four appearance. Kentucky and head coach John Calipari are back in the Final Four after ousting second-seeded Michigan in the Elite Eight.
The national title game is Monday night.
