DETROIT, MI - Friday’s game between the Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles started late due to rain and was halted for 34 minutes in the fourth inning during a rain delay. Rain did little to stop the Tigers’ offense, though, as Detroit topped Baltimore 10-4.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 3-0 while Baltimore falls to 1-3 with the loss.
Miguel Cabrera had his strongest outing of the young 2014 season, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three runs driven in. Rajai Davis also drove in three runs and had a home run in the win.
Anibal Sanchez gave up two earned runs and struck out three batters over four innings but his outing was cut short by the rain delay, giving him the no decision. Drew Smyly earned his first win of the season in relief, striking out three and giving up just one hit over three innings.
The Tigers take on the Orioles again on Saturday as Rick Porcello gets his first start of the season opposite Baltimore’s Bud Norris.
