Knysz sentenced for killing Michigan State Police Trooper

LUDINGTON (WKZO) --- Eric Knysz is headed to prison until the day he dies for killing Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield last September during a traffic stop. The 20-year-old was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole after being convicted of several charges including first-degree murder on February 25 in Ludington.

Knysz read a statement during the sentencing hearing, apologizing to the family and friends of Trooper Butterfield and to his own family, noting his wife and mother did not voluntarily participate in his crime. His wife, Sarah, is serving time for being an accessory and his mother is still facing trial.
