COLDWATER (WTVB) - It appears the bandits that knocked off the Verizon Store in Coldwater on St. Patrick’s Day making off with more than $25,000 worth of smart phones and tablets are still at it. A gang of five thieves broke into three phone stores early yesterday in Muskegon and Ottawa Counties. They had the same main objective as the break in of the business on Coldwater’s east side. They were highly organized, wore hoods over their heads and kept their faces down to avoid the video security. They got in and got out within two minutes, taking dozens of high end smart phones and other devices from each store. Detectives say it appears they hit a Sprint store in Muskegon County, then robbed another Sprint and a Verizon outlet in Allendale all within an hour. The phones have since been disabled so their resale value and use is limited, but they could be sold to some unsuspecting buyer over the internet. Authorities say similar crimes have also happened this year in Ohio and Indiana.
