BATTLE CREEK (WTVB) - There’s no shortage of drama and controversy in the administration of government workings in the Cereal City. The latest involves two high ranking officials in the Battle Creek Police Department who were suspended in March are now suing the city, the mayor, and others claiming their careers have been ruined. In the 22-page suit, they claim they were the victims of a vendetta orchestrated by Mayor Dave Walters.
Former Deputy Chief Jim Saylor and internal affairs head Maria Alonso claim that they were targeted because they recommended that the mayor’s son, Derek, be fired from the Police Department after allegations he failed to file a police report, and his actions afterwards. They claimed the Mayor threatened to hire a lawyer and his son was only suspended.
They also claim that their reputations were sullied during a news conference called by the interim manager and interim chief. They want their jobs back, their records expunged and fair and reasonable compensation. City officials are not commenting.
