LANSING (WKZO) -- A statewide recycling initiative is being launched by Governor Snyder. He plans to appoint a nine member Michigan Recycling Council to oversee the implementation of his plan. Michigan residents are well below the national average for residential household recycling, with Governor Snyder's office putting the rate at 15-percent compared to a national average of 35-percent. A recent study shows over 435-million dollars in metal, glass, paper and plastic that could be recycled instead winds up in Michigan landfills every year.
