COLDWATER (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, yesterday in a makeup baseball doubleheader, Bronson dropped a pair at home to Homer 4-3 in eight innings and 7-3. In the opener, Ryan Hagen took the loss in relief. Noah Roberts and Blake Fox had two hits apiece with a double and an rbi for Roberts. In the nightcap, Hagen again suffered the defeat. Roberts had two more hits with an rbi and Daniel McMichael added 2 hits with an rbi as the Vikings slip to 7-3. Friday in boy’s golf, Coldwater finished seventh out of 16 teams at the Marshall Country Club for the Marshall Sports Festival Golf Invitational. The Cardinals had a team score of 347 while Marshall won the event with a 308. Coldwater was led by Nolan Duda with an 81, Nathan Waterbury shot an 86, Scout Case had an 89, Cam Ruge fired a 91, and Keagan Dwyer rounded out the scoring with a 97. In JV golf action Coldwater played in the Lakeview JV Invitational and came away with a 4th place finish out of 12 teams shooting a team score of 371. Coldwater was led by Nick Galliers who shot a round of 85 which was good enough for 3rd place overall. Yesterday in track, it was Bronson at the Parma Western Invitational with a total of 13 Division Two and Three schools. The Bronson boys team finished 11th while the girls took fifth place overall. The top showing for the boys came from Jordan Alger who came in second place in the High Jump. For the girls, Kaitlin VanNuys won the shot put while Mariah Roberts placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Bronson’s 4-x-100 relay team finished second. On today’s varsity high school schedule, in baseball and softball, it’s Quincy at Hanover Horton and in track, it’s the Union City Invitational, including Quincy.
Yesterday in middle school sports, in track, it was the Union City Invitational with 13 schools including Coldwater and Quincy. On the boys side, Union City was second, Quincy fourth and Coldwater fifth while in the girls meet, Quincy was second, Union City fourth and Coldwater seventh. First place finishers in the boys meet included Quincy’s Jonathan Purvis in the shot put, and Coldwater’s Joey Severn in the long jump. Winners for the girls included Ashlyb Baklund of Union City in the 70 meter dash, Coldwater’s 800 meter relay team of Avery Milnes, Malorie Rzepka,Claire Sheppard, and Kathy Porter, Quincy’s Mackenzie Horsfall in the 200 and 400 meter dash, and Quincy’s Harmony Gadbois in the 800 meter run.
