COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Domestic violence awareness was raised and so was more than $25,000 in downtown Coldwater Saturday with the annual Branch County Coalition against Domestic Violence Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, the men’s march to fund the coalition’s programs and services. Kim Hemker, executive director of the BCCADV, said she was thrilled and thankful for the wonderful turnout for the event which put a bit of a fun focus on an otherwise serious issue.
Coldwater High School teacher Brian Stevens was the top individual fund raiser. State Senator Bruce Caswell told the gathering that if anyone has a feeling that someone might be struggling with domestic relations, just say something, you don’t have to solve the problem for them, just listen and maybe offer some alternatives. Caswell said the large number of walkers and volunteers was proof of their belief of wanting families to come together rather than fall apart and he thanked everyone involved for their participation.
