ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) - Drinking and driving is believed to have been a factor in the death of a woman last night in an accident west of Angola. It happened around nine o’clock in Steuben County’s Jackson Township along County Road 100 North.
According to Sheriff’s deputies, an SUV towing a utility trailer had the trailer come lose after the driver said he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. A passenger from the SUV was walking toward the crest of a hill along the roadway to alert oncoming traffic of what was ahead with the loose trailer when a car approached and swerved to miss hitting the woman who trying to warn drivers about the situation. The car’s evasive maneuver caused it to leave the roadway and rollover several times.
The driver and his passenger, both from LaGrange, were ejected from the vehicle. 43-year old Deanna Shroyer, was taken to Cameron Hospital in Angola, where she was pronounced dead. The driver, 41-year old Daniel Shroyer, was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by Samaritan Helicopter with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
