COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The Coldwater City Council meets in regular session Monday night. Among the items in its light agenda is the introduction of an ordinance that would ban most private water wells within the city limits. The intent of the ordinance, according to Community Services Director Keith Baker, is to protect both the aquifer which the Board of Public Utilities draws its water from and to protect the city's financial investment in the water system through the BPU. The listed exceptions include wells built solely for the dewatering of construction sites, geothermal wells for heating, and the municipal wells operated by the city or schools for its water supply and athletic field irrigation. Private wells that currently exist would be grandfathered in until such time that they fail and would need replacement.
Also meeting in regular session Monday night: the Bronson Board of Education.
