QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - Monday night in boys high school soccer, Quincy was a winner at home 6-2 over Jackson Christian. Nick Haberl led the Orioles with 4 goals for the victory in their Independent Soccer League opener. Quincy was ahead 4-0 at halftime and made it 5-0 before the visiting Royals scored twice and then the Orioles closed out the scoring on Haberl’s breakaway unassisted goal with 10 minutes to play. Jake Rider had Quincy’s other two goals, including one on a penalty kick. Evan Albright had 3 assists with one assist for Jared Brown. Tanner Parshall had 5 saves in goal for the Orioles, who improved their record to 2-0. The Oriole’s next match is tomorrow night at Marshall.
In boy’s tennis yesterday, Coldwater was an 8-0 winner at home over Three Rivers. At singles, the winners for the Cardinals were Derek Sammons, Nate Waterbury, Kumaran Arivoli, and Keagan Dwyer. And at doubles, the Coldwater sweep included Austin Butler and Kam Miller at first doubles, Buddy Bailey and Nolan Duda at second doubles, Austin Hodson and Shane O’Grady at third doubles, and Christian Pine and Nick Galliers at fourth doubles. The Cardinals are undefeated on the young season adding Monday’s win to their earlier victory over Comstock while taking the title at the Vicksburg Invitational.
In junior varsity girls golf yesterday at Binder Park, Coldwater had a third place finish in their first jamboree of the season with a team score of 227. Sturgis won the event with a 211. Coldwater was led by Samantha Dygert who finished runner-up for the Jamboree with a round of 47. Natalie Borden had a 54, Sabrina VanAuker and Jena Beckhusen each had 63's, Gabriel Boston carded a 69 and Micki Slack rounded out Coldwater's scoring with a 75. Coldwater will host the second JV Jamboree of the season at the Coldwater Golf Course on Thursday.
And in volleyball on Monday, the Coldwater freshman team played in a Bronson J-V quad meet. They opened with a 2-1 loss to Centreville before defeating Sturgis 2-1 and finished with a 2-0 loss to Bronson. Addison Harvey had 8 aces. Carly Duke had 22 assists. Allison Adams had 4 digs and 4 kills. And Carlie Wilson had 4 blocks.
On today’s high school schedule, in volleyball, Bronson is at the Pennfield Invitational while Union City plays in a quad meet at Marshall. In boy’s tennis, Bronson hosts Bridgman and in cross country, it’s Union City at the Three Rivers Invitational.
The Coldwater Athletic Department’s fall parent meeting and pay-to-participate fee collection will take place this evening with the fees collected from 5:15-6 pm and then the coaches will meet with parents beginning at six o’clock.
