DETROIT (WTVB) - The Tigers avoided arbitration with catcher Alex Avila after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with an option for 2015. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed although sources said it will pay Avila $4.35 million this year with a $5.4 million dollar option for next season. Over 102 games last season, the 27-year-old Avila batted .227 with 11 home runs and 47 rbi’s, although he hit .303 after the All-Star break.
