COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Police and tow truck operators were busy during the day and night Saturday, handling numerous slid-off accidents and motorist in the ditch or even stuck in their driveway, after a wintery mix of snow and rain dropped more white stuff on Branch County. During the early evening hours Saturday, I-69 in Branch County was the busiest stretch for those slide-offs, as drivers weren't able to navigate the slushy and icy conditions.
One sports competiiton was the victim of this latest blast of winter weather. The Coldwater High School gymnastics team, on its way to a meet in Tecumseh, turned back and came home because of worsening road conditons.
The National Weather Service had originally issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Branch County, but then updgraded that to a Winter Weather Warning for Branch, St Joseph, Cass, and Berrien counties. That warning was cancelled shortly before 11 pm Saturday.
A handful of churches in the area did cancel services for Sunday, but the majority went on as scheduled.
