IONIA, MI (WTVB) - WOOD TV-8 in Grand Rapids is reporting that court documents have revealed that Michael Elliot’s escape from the Ionia Correctional Facility Sunday was caught on video tape, but it’s not clear if anyone was actually watching the live security monitors. It came in testimony from a State Trooper who was seeking warrants for the alleged car-jacking and abduction of a woman after Elliot left the prison.
The trooper testified that Elliot began his escape at 6 p.m. and did not actually slip under the second fence to freedom until 53 minutes later. They were able to set the precise timeline because it was on video.
It all took place at the same time that Denver was falling behind Seattle in the first half of the Super Bowl.
