LANSING (WKZO) -- Proponents of making the Michigan Legislature a part-time body have the go-ahead from the Board of State Canvassers to start collecting petition signatures. They want to limit the number of regular session days to a maximum of 60 per year and cut the pay of lawmakers roughly in half, down to 35-thousand dollars a year. The Committee to Restore Michigan's Part-time Legislature has until July 7th to gather roughly 323-thousand valid signatures to put the measure on the November ballot.
