QUINCY (WTVB) - There was a barn fire Friday afternoon in Branch County’s Algansee Township. Quincy firefighters arrived around 12:45 to find the structure at 789 Hall Road fully engulfed in flames. The blaze spread to about 100 bales of hay in the building but Ken Wendorf, the property owner, was able to get all his animals away from the barn before the fire department arrived. The fire appears to have started from a shorted heating element used to keep animal water from freezing. Firefighters were on scene for about an hour and a half. Mutual aid was requested from the Lakeland and Fremont fire departments. Then early today, the Quincy Fire Department helped work a garage fire in Hillsdale County’s Allen Township. The blaze at 10500 Youngs Road completely destroyed the building and two pickup trucks inside. Quincy got the call around 2:50 a.m. and was on the job assisting Allen for a little over an hour.
