COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The Branch County Sheriff’s Office and the Branch County Emergency Management Office said today that in order to keep the County Road Commission focused on clearing county roadways, the Sheriff’s Office will no longer call on road commission trucks for assistance to help with stranded motorists. Sheriff John Pollack is asking all motorists to stay off the roadways unless it is an emergency. If you must travel, all drivers are asked to stay on plowed roadways only. If you feel you must travel on an unplowed roadway and become stranded, Pollack says deputies will attempt to help out but you should be prepared for long response times.
Road Commission Manager Trent Arver says snow drifts on rural and especially secondary roads are up to 5 feet deep in places. Arver stresses if you are considering traveling and aren’t sure of the conditions of your road in a rural area, please stay home. He says they need to get every public road open today and they can’t spend time having road commission crews plowing out stuck vehicles. Arver says they will only be responding for true emergency situations.
