PASADENA, CA (WTVB) - Top-ranked Florida State rallied to get by number-two Auburn 34-31 in the final BCS Championship Game at the Rose Bowl. Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston connected on a two-yard touchdown pass for the winning score for the Seminoles with 13 seconds to play. The final five minutes featured three lead changes led by a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown which gave Florida State a 27-24 lead. Auburn countered on a 37-yard touchdown run with just over a minute to play, giving them a 31-27 lead. But the Tigers couldn’t hold off Winston and the Seminoles in the end as FSU won its third national championship and first since 1999.
The unbeaten Seminoles finished at 14-0 and they ended a seven year run of BCS titles won by the SEC. Auburn, which had a 21-3 lead in the second quarter, closed out with a 12-2 record. The College Football Playoff system begins next year.
