COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The big thaw is coming, it’s just taking it’s time but school days 2014 are finally here with Branch County kids back in the classroom today for the first time since their Christmas break started for many back on December 20th. However, there are still some school closings this morning in Calhoun and Eaton counties including Athens, Marshall, Harper Creek and Olivet.
There is the potential for minor flooding in the Branch County area this weekend into early next week with the major meltdown from the deep freeze set to take hold beginning tomorrow. The National Weather Service says widespread one to two inches of water equivalent exists in the present snowpack across the region. There is a chance for moderate to locally heavy rainfall Friday night into early Saturday. The rain along with temperatures above freezing, could result in a sudden release of runoff atop the frozen ground.
