Lions officially introduce Jim Caldwell as their new head coach

Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell
Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell

DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - Jim Caldwell is in place as the new head coach of the Lions. He was formally introduced Wednesday afternoon at Ford Field as the replacement for the fired Jim Schwartz. Caldwell said he joins the owners and management in Detroit in believing that the pieces are in place for a winning team, and in his words, the time is now, not 2 years or 3 years from now, down the road somewhere, but right here, right now.

Caldwell comes to Detroit from Baltimore where he served as offensive coordinator of the Ravens. He previously served as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 through 2011.  He was 24-and-8 in his first two seasons with a trip to the Super Bowl, but was fired after the Colts went 2-and-14 in 2011 when star quarterback Peyton Manning missed the entire season with a neck injury.
