UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in girls basketball, Union City lost at home to Concord 41-29 in make-up action from a game that was snowed out last week. Rachel Sutherland had 11 points in the loss while Rachel Wing added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocked shots. The defeat dropped Union City to 4-and-6 overall and 1-and-4 in the Big Eight Conference.
In boys basketball, in a late score from Tuesday night, Bronson lost a non conference game at Cassopolis in double overtime 86-74. Blake Fox led the visiting Vikings with 18 points while Chase Carpenter had 15, Jordan Alger 12, and Sean Kenny 10.
Wednesday night in wrestling, Coldwater beat Harper Creek 44-25 in a quad meet at Marshall. Winners for the Cardinals included Mohamed Aljabaly, Randall Linton, Chris VandenHout, Sam DeMeester, and Cooper Murphy. The rest of the Coldwater points were awarded from 3 void matches. In a tri meet at Quincy, the host Orioles fell to Springport 74-3. Also, Union City was defeated by Springport 76-3 and by Reading 66-10. Earning points for Union City were Davis Fettes, Tristan Banks, and Jared Shepard.
On tonight’s high school schedule, a key matchup in Big 8 boys basketball with Quincy at home against Homer. Both teams are 4-0 in conference play with the host Orioles 6-1 overall and Homer is undefeated at 7-0. Also in the Big 8, Union City hosts Jonesville. Tonight’s reserve hoops schedule includes Coldwater vs. Battle Creek Central with the boys games in Coldwater while the girls play at Battle Creek. The freshman tip-off at 4:15 with the j-v action set to begin at 5:45. And in boys and girls bowling, it’s Coldwater at Sturgis.

In middle school sports yesterday, in girls basketball, the Bronson 7th grade team opened their season with a 33-12 win at Jonesville, while the 8th grade team lost 30-17.
