COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Monday night in a Branch County girls basketball matchup, Coldwater was a winner at home over Bronson 37-29. Bronson had a 9-5 lead at the end of the first period but Coldwater answered in the second quarter and pulled ahead 17-14 by halftime. The Lady Cardinals then took a 26-21 edge in the fourth quarter before nailing down the eight point victory. Coldwater’s Kenzie Galloway and Bronson’s Liz Baker shared game-high scoring honors with 18 points apiece. Baker was our McDonald’s Player of the Game for Bronson while Michaela Gillette earned the nod for Coldwater after coming off the bench to spark her team in the first half when she scored all of her 8 points on the night. The loss dropped Bronson’s record to 6-3 while Coldwater improved to 4-and-7.
In last night’s j-v game, Coldwater beat Bronson 29-24 with 9 points and 8 rebounds in the win for Breanna Eddy. And in freshman action, it was Coldwater losing to Vicksburg 54-27 with 21 points in the loss for Megan Lippert.
Last night in boys basketball, in a makeup game from last week, Union City lost at home to Jonesville 56-51. Skyler Flanders had a game-high 16 points for the host Chargers with 13 points for Darren Austin and 12 for Nick Austin. Union City slips to 3-and-5 and 2-and-3 in the Big Eight.
Tonight in high school sports, in a boys basketball game we’ll have on the radio, it’s Coldwater at home against Tecumseh. Our live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 begins at 7 pm with the tip-off set for 7:15 pm following the j-v game that starts at 5:30 pm. There’s no freshman contest. Also in boys hoops, in a Branch County matchup, it’s Bronson at Quincy. In girls basketball, it’s Coldwater at Adrian, Quincy at Concord and Union City at Homer. In gymnastics, Coldwater hosts Adrian, and in boys and girls bowling, Coldwater hosts Battle Creek Lakeview this afternoon at Coldwater Recreation Lanes.

In middle school sports, in girls basketball, Bronson swept a pair of games at White Pigeon. The Lady Vikings won the eighth grade game 29-12 with 6 points for Payton Robinson while Kiana Mayer had 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Bronson took the seventh grade game 34-8 with 10 points for Kiera Lasky.
