High school wrestling and basketball teams in action Wednesday

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in wrestling, all of the county teams were in action. Coldwater lost a SMAC East match at Sturgis 40-26. In the Big 8, Quincy earned a split in a quad meet at Homer. The Orioles defeated Concord 48-30 and then lost to Athens-Climax Scotts 54-18. Double winners for Quincy were Hunter Winger, Dalton Hard, and Luke Wiser. The Orioles conference record is 2-3. And in another quad meet, Union City lost 58-9 at Jonesville. Also, Bronson picked up a pair of wins at Mendon, beating the host Hornets 68-6 while defeating Colon 66-9. 

In boys and girls basketball last night, Bronson had makeup games. In the girls action, Bronson lost at home to Prairie Heights 53-46 with 12 points apiece for Liz Baker and Skyler Sobeski. The non-conference loss drops Bronson’s record to 6-4. In the boys contest, Bronson lost 72-47 at Athens. In the junior varsity game, the Vikings beat Athens 51-40 with 17 points for Justin Robinson.

On tonight’s high school schedule, in reserve basketball, it’s Coldwater vs. Kalamazoo Loy Norrix with the boys games at Coldwater while the girls play at Loy Norrix. The freshmen action begins at 4:15 with the j-v contests set for 5:45. In girls varsity basketball, it’s Tekonsha at Camden Frontier. And in boys and girls bowling, Coldwater hosts Marshall at Coldwater Recreation Lanes. Today on the Coaches Corner, it’s Union City boys basketball coach Ben Chard.

In middle school sports yesterday, in girls basketball, Bronson split at home against Mar-Lee. The Lady Vikings lost the 8th grade game 29-25 with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Meghan Vaughn. Bronson won the 7th grade game 34-9 with 11 points for Maddy Thompson.
