COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Mickey Mantle summer league baseball action last night, it was a single game at home for Coldwater and they beat the West Michigan Warriors 18-5. Colin Torrey was the winning pitcher, tossing 2-hit ball over 4-and-a-third innings while giving up 4 runs with 5 strikeouts. Cameron Barnes finished up the seven inning game, shutting down the Warriors with no hits allowed along with a pair of strikeouts. At the plate, Eric Bach had 3 singles with an RBI while Calib Letendre had 2 singles with an RBI as Coldwater improved their record to 11-6-1.
There will be lots of baseball over the next three days with Coldwater hosting AABC Mickey Mantle and Sandy Koufax State Tournaments. Some of today’s opening round games will be played in Union City in addition to the contests happening at Lowe and Borden Fields in Coldwater.
This weekend’s Sandy Koufax winner advances to the regional in 2 weeks in Rockford, Illinois while the Mickey Mantle Regional starts a week from today with Coldwater, the host team, always receiving an automatic bid to the event. It will be the 45th year for the Mickey Mantle North Central Regional in Coldwater.
