MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WTVB) - Detroit Tiger’s first baseman Miguel Cabrera will bat cleanup for the American League in tonight’s All-Star game at Minnesota’s Target Field. The lineups announced Monday for the Mid-Summer Classic also included Yankees shortstop and Kalamazoo native Derek Jeter hitting leadoff for the American League as he plays in his final season and 14th All-Star game.
Starting on the mound for the AL will be Seattle’s Felix Hernandez while the National League starter will be St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright. Besides Cabrera, the American League roster for the 85th All-Star Game includes Detroit teammates pitcher Max Scherzer and DH Victor Martinenz, although Martinez won’t play because of lingering soreness in his right side. Tiger’s second baseman Ian Kinsler replaces him on the reserve roster for the AL squad.
The winner of the All-Star Game will determine which league gets home field advantage in the World Series.
And a local connection to tonight’s game. Scott Barry of Quincy will be the third base umpire. It’s the first career All-Star contest for Barry, who has 5 years major league service time as an umpire.
