Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera have big hits as Tigers beat Diamondbacks 11-5, start 4 game series at Anaheim tonight

PHEONIX, AZ (WTVB) - The Detroit Tigers were able to wear out the Diamondbacks 11-5 yesterday afternoon at Arizona to take the rubber game of the 3-game series.  The first place Tigers took a 7-0 lead and then let the Diamondbacks creep back into the contest with the deficit cut to 7-5 after seven innings. But Miguel Cabrera helped nail down Detroit’s best in the majors’ 30th road win of the season with a three run homer in the eighth inning.

Red-hot Tiger lead-off man Austin Jackson had another two hit game with a pair of doubles including one that cleared the bases for 3 rbi’s during Detroit’s 5-run fourth inning.  Anibal Sanchez improved to 7-and-4 after battling through six and-a-third innings and giving up five runs on 11 hits.

The Tigers win, coupled with Cleveland’s loss at Minnesota, lifted Detroit’s Central Division lead to  6-and-a-half games over the second place Indians. The 7-game road trip for the Tigers gets tougher tonight when they open a 4-game set with the Angels at Anaheim, where they have the best home record in both leagues.

The White Sox fell to the Royals 2-1 yesterday afternoon in Chicago while the Cubs lost 8-3 to the Padres last night at Wrigley Field.
