COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Joseph Leiffer had a video arraignment yesterday at the Branch County jail. He’s the 39-year suspect who surrendered without incident Tuesday afternoon following an armed standoff with hostage incident at the Lion’s Den Adult Entertainment Center north of Coldwater. Leiffer was charged in District Court with felony fleeing and eluding, felony firearm and kidnapping.
Bond was set at $250,000 but Leiffer isn’t going anywhere since he’s being detained on a hold order issued by Indiana authorities. He’s expected in the near future to be returned to Angola to face prosecution in Steuben County for his alleged armed robbery at the CVS Pharmacy after which police say he fled to Michigan sparking the standoff that started around 10 am Tuesday.
Officials also say Leiffer is named on a felony warrant for embezzlement out of his hometown of Carleton in southeast Michigan’s Monroe County. No injuries resulted from the situation at the Lion’s Den.
