COLDWATER, M (WTVB) - It was a strange Sunday weather wise, sort of a sunshine sandwich with a storm in between. Branch County missed the severe stuff but it was close by. The humidity made it feel close combined with the official high temperature in Coldwater of 87 degrees.
West Michigan got pummeled by hail during a mid-afternoon storm with golf-ball size hailstones as large as two inches in diameter reported in Plainwell and in Cooper Township in northern Kalamazoo County. The fast moving and intense system also dropped a lot of rain quickly and then moved on, leaving a rainbow behind. It also left scattered power outages. At the peak in the Kalamazoo area, there were just over 3,000 homes and businesses without power, and 1,600 were hit by outages in Calhoun County. Only a few hundred remain without power today in our area. Statewide, the storms blacked out more than 200,000.
