EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) - In high school sports, the spring season in Michigan wrapped up Saturday with the MHSAA baseball, softball and soccer tournament finals. In baseball, only one Southwest Michigan team played for a championship with Decatur losing 9-0 to Gross Pointe Woods in the Division 3 title game. In softball, two teams from the SMAC were in action. Stevensville-Lakeshore won the Division Two championship by defeating Livonia Ladywood 4-3. However, Portage Central fell in the Division One title contest 4-2 to Bay City Western. Meanwhile, in Division 4, Kalamazoo Christian came up short, losing 3-2 to Rogers City.
In girls soccer, Gull Lake was able to repeat as the Division Two champions with the Blue Devils defeating Bloomfield Hills Marian 2-1 in a rematch of last year’s title match. And in Division Four, Grandville Calvin Christian, which eliminated Quincy in the regional semi-finals, won the title by beating Clarkston Everest 2-1.
On the local sports scene, in summer league baseball, yesterday in Mickey Mantle action, Coldwater split a doubleheader at Bronson. In the opener, Bronson was the winner 3-2. Eric Bach took the loss. Sean Printke had 2 singles and an rbi. Coldwater beat Bronson in the four inning nightcap 15-3. Colin Torrey was the winning pitcher. Conner Covert had 2 doubles and a single and 5 rbi’s while Printke had a triple and an rbi double with 3 runs scored. Also Caleb Letendre scored 3 runs and had 3 rbi’s with a bases-loaded triple. Coldwater’s record is 1-4-1 and they play Wednesday evening at Battle Creek.
