DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - The Tigers got a 4-3 walk-off win over the Twins yesterday on a sacrifice fly by J.D. Martinez in the bottom of the ninth at Comerica Park. The rbi from Martinez scored Torii Hunter to give Detroit the victory in the rubber game of the 3-game series with Minnesota and it allowed the first place Tigers to keep their American League Central lead at a game-and-a-half over the second place Kansas City Royals, who have won 7 straight. Tonight, Detroit opens a 4-game home series with the Royals.
Rick Porcello pitched seven innings of three run ball Sunday against the Twins while Joe Nathan tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up the win. Justin Verlander starts for the Tigers tonight against Kansas City, who beat the White Sox yesterday 6-3 in Chicago.
The Chicago Cubs shutout the Phillies 3-0 at Philadelphia.
