COLDWATER (WTVB) - More repercussions are emerging from this month’s assault on a Bronson fireman while he was responding to a house fire call in Matteson Township. Branch County Sheriff John Pollack has informed County Commissioners that as a result of the incident, his office received an e-mail from the Coldwater Fire Department, which details a revision in their SOP, or standard operating procedures. It concerns their response policy to open burning in the townships, basically requesting that law enforcement accompany them to the scene of any illegal burns or whenever they receive a call to investigate a burning. Pollack said he’s sure this is going to cascade on to the other fire departments in the county and likewise, more SOP revisions to make that same request. According to the Sheriff, that will increase the calls his department receives for service and the State Police as well. Pollack doesn’t expect there to be a large number of such service calls monthly but by the end of the year, they will probably add up.
