COLDWATER (WTVB) - The outdated Branch County jail continues to show its age. The latest problem for the lockup arrived last Wednesday with some serious flooding in the building and they’re hoping it won’t be an issue with more rain on the way. Actually, the situation with the cascading water in the building originated inside, bubbling up from a drain that’s been plugged in the past. Sheriff John Pollack told County Commissioners the most recent flooding was caused by an animal that crawled into a pipe and passed away. Meanwhile, a leak in the sally port area made its way to the furnace. The Sheriff said he also has concerns because there was no response when he attempted to contact the county complex manager to make him aware of the problems. According to Pollack, it’s one thing when there’s an issue at the courthouse or human services building after 6 p.m. since the employees have all gone home, but at the jail, in his words, “I’ve got 142 people out there that his could be a problem for.” He called it a priority item that needs to be addressed. The County Board of Commissioners holds its second meeting of June tomorrow.
