House Rep. Franz introduces new legislation to aid those applying for Military Family Relief Fund

State Capitol, Lansing
State Capitol, Lansing

LANSING (WTVB) - Legislation has been introduced in the Michigan House that's designed to give flexibility to families applying to the Military Family Relief Fund. The bill, introduced by State Representative Ray Franz, of Manistee County, would change the way the fund works so that families looking for assistance can apply for it as soon as a unit's mobilization order is issued. Currently, they have to wait until the service member is on active duty. Franz says this is just another way the state can help those who choose to serve. The Military Family Relief Fund provides financial assistance of up to two thousand dollars a year to families who have a service member currently deployed. It's supported by a voluntary check off on Michigan tax forms. The bill from Franz is currently before the House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
