The injury-plagued Red Wings hope a deal made before Wednesday’s trading deadline will be enough to boost their chances to qualify for the playoffs. Detroit gets some forward help picking up veteran David Legwand from the Nashville Predators. The Red Wings shipped forward Patrick Eaves, a conditional third-round pick and a top forward prospect to the Predators for the 33-year old Legwand, who was tied for the points lead on Nashville this season. Detroit announced yesterday that Pavel Datsyuk will be shut down for the next three weeks to help him recover from a knee injury. The Red Wings are also without centers Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss and Darren Helm. Detroit is trying to qualify for the playoffs for a 23rd straight season and currently is one point out of the final postseason berth in the Eastern Conference. Tonight, the Red Wings play at home against Colorado and they will honor former team captain Nicklas Lidstrom, retiring his Number-5 jersey in a ceremony before the game.  Lidstrom, who retired in 2012, played his entire 20 year NHL career with Detroit and was named captain in 2006.
