MIAMI, FL (WTVB) - Ex-Lions safety Louis Delmas has landed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins. The agreement will reportedly pay Delmas a maximum 3-and-a-half million dollars. The former Western Michigan who played high school football in Miami played 5 seasons in Detroit. He was slowed by knee tendonitis the past 3 years and was released by the Lions in February with one year remaining on his contract. NFL free agency is officially set  to start this afternoon although teams have been allowed to negotiate with players and sign those already released by other teams.

Meanwhile, the ownership of the Lions is being shifted to Martha Ford, the widow of William Clay Ford.  She will take over controlling interest of the franchise bought by her husband 50 years ago.  Ford died Sunday morning at the age of 88 after suffering from pneumonia.
