LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Michigan’s first agricultural crop of the season is being delayed by this extended winter. Maple sap harvesters say they need warm days and cold nights, the kind they usually get in late February to get the sap to flow, so they can begin maple syrup production. However, they are still waiting for the taps to produce enough sap to fire up the boilers. Depending on the sugar content, it can take 43 to 86 gallons of sap to make just one gallon of syrup.
