UNDATED (WTVB) - In high school sports, cancellations were the order of the day Wednesday with the mid-week snowstorm impacting events from top to bottom with indoor local practice sessions for the upcoming spring sports schedule called off and quite a few boys basketball March Magic games were postponed.The scrubbed state tournament contests were moved to tonight, including the Jonesville Class C regional title matchup between Hillsdale and Vermontville Maple Valley.
In spite of the latest blast of winter weather, a number of regional championships were decided last night. In Class-B, Benton Harbor beat Otsego in overtime 78-73 while in Class D, fifth-ranked Battle Creek St. Philip moved on to next week’s quarterfinals by defeating Covert 61-44.
The girls basketball Final Four opens today at the Breslin Center including 5th-ranked Athens taking on top-ranked Crystal Fall Forest Park in tonight’s Class D semi-finals. Besides Athens, one other Southwest Michigan school is still playing in the girls second season as undefeated Gobles will tip-off the Final Four in this afternoon’s first game as the Tigers battle Saginaw Nouvel beginning at one o’clock. The Class A and Class B semi-finals are tomorrow with the four title games on Saturday.
