ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Babies born at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital will now be just a little bit safer when they leave the hospital thanks to a generous donation from the family of the late Layla Leigh Budreau. Austin and Nora Budreau, parents of Layla, recently donated 100 sleep sacks to the Cameron Birthing Center so that families can be presented with a sack upon their discharge. “Sleep sacks are one way to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome),” said Austin Budreau.
Layla Leigh Budreau passed away on November 24, 2014 at four months old from SIDS. “She was a happy little girl,” said Budreau. After Layla’s sudden passing, family, friends and the Steuben County community showed their generous support through donations in Layla’s name. “We wanted to use the money to help educate and prevent SIDS,” said Budreau. The Budreau’s purchased the sacks for mothers delivering at Cameron each honoring Layla with the embroidered “A Gift from Layla Leigh” over the heart, as well as presenting a check to support staff education about SIDS.
“We are truly touched that the Budreau family has shared the memory of their beautiful daughter with our staff and patients with these sacks,” said Tonya Alleshouse, Cameron OB Coordinator. “We are proud to honor and remember Layla as we share the importance of safe sleep with each of our patients.”
Cameron’s Birthing Center has 15 registered nurses providing over 130 combined years of experience in assisting area parents. These professionals are all neonatal certified, certified in the S.T.A.B.L.E. program, and have all completed a breastfeeding class to better assist mothers and babies as they prepare to go home.
