BATTLE CREEK (WTVB) - Six bricklayers were injured, two of them seriously, when their scaffolding outside the new Marriott Hotel going up in Emmett Township collapsed late Friday morning. It happened off Beckley Road east of M-66. The two most seriously injured workers suffered broken limbs and other injuries in the tangle of falling metal and wood. They were apparently three stories off the ground when the scaffolding suddenly failed. Emmett Township Chief Mike Olson says they are looking into whether plastic sheets draped around the outside of the scaffolding to protect the workers from the weather may have had the opposite effect, catching the wind and bringing it all down. MI-OSHA is also investigating.
