COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- In Branch County high school sports, the Coldwater gymnastics team held its annual awards banquet last night with the Outstanding Senior of the Year award going to Becca Harmon. Other honors included Jenny Daoud with Most Season Varsity Points; Jillian Crist Award for Most Improved All Around-Madison Hedstrom; Also in the Most Improved category, on vault-Jenny Daoud; on bars-Kala Sperbeck; on beam-Becca Harmon; and on floor: Cearra Neal. Also, Neal was named Rookie Of The Year.
The Coldwater girls varsity tennis team played their first match of the season Friday at the Jenison Invitational at the Ramblewood Tennis facility and came in third place, winning ten matches. Caledonia was first with 21 match wins for the day and Jennison second, winning 15 matches. Kalamazoo Loy Norrix finished fourth. Coldwater’s Madison Zinn claimed the first place medal at number one singles, making her the top player overall at the tournament. Other match wins for Coldwater included Emma Grife, Emma Dwyer, and Fawn Andrews at second, third, and fourth singles against Loy Norrix along with Karissa Harrel and Sadie Youse at first doubles vs. Jenison; Aubrey Hodson and Sabrina Machida at third doubles vs. Loy Norrix; and Allison Eastmead and Allissa Bowen at fourth doubles, also against Loy Norrix. The next scheduled match for Coldwater is coming up Saturday at the Vicksburg Bulldog Invitational.
