COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County’s population dropped slightly again last year. According to Census Bureau estimates released today, the county lost 203 residents between 2012 and 2013, leaving the population at 43,649. In 2011, the number was 43,902. Just under 60% of Michigan counties saw their populations drop in the most recent census estimates.
Statewide, there was a gain of around 13,000 residents during the same period. In the area, there were slight declines in Calhoun and Hillsdale counties and a small increase in St. Joseph County. The Michigan counties that had the largest jump in populations were Ottawa, Kent, and Grand Traverse counties.
