Verlander takes no-hitter into the 6th, helps Tigers to 9-4 win to sweep the Royals

KANSAS CITY, MO (WTVB) - The Tigers topped the Royals 9-4 yesterday at Kansas City to finish off a 3-game sweep. Detroit has won 5 straight to improve to 17-9 and they lead the American League Central by 4-and-a-half games over the Twins.   Nick Castellanos and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers while Torii Hunter had 3 hits and 3 rbi’s. Justin Verlander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He ended up striking out seven in seven innings while allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs, taking his record to 4-1.

Detroit starts a seven game home stand tonight, opening up a 4-game series against the Houston Astros.

The Chicago White Sox won 4-3 yesterday at Cleveland while the Cubs lost 5-4 to the Cardinals last night at Wrigley Field.
