LANSING (WKZO) -- The unemployment rate in Michigan dropped to 8.5-percent in the first quarter of the year. That compares to a 9.1-percent rate in the fourth quarter of 2013 and ten-percent in the first quarter of last year. It is also the first time in several years that the drop in unemployment was attributed to an increase in jobs secured rather than a labor force decline.
