COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County voters in August will be deciding the fate of a trio of county-wide ballot proposals with questions concerning BATA, the Commission on Aging and the Branch County District Library. The filing deadline for county and local proposals for the August 5th primary was Tuesday of this week. The Branch Area Transit Authority request is a 5-year renewal for .35 mill. For the Commission on Aging, including the H-&-C Burnside Senior Center, it’s also a 5-year renewal for just under a half a mill. And for the District Library System, they’re asking for approval of a half mill increase for eight years to fund operating expenses for all branches of the system.
Local issues to be voted on in August include the Bronson School District’s request for a five year sinking fund levy up to 2 mills for building construction and repairs. In Batavia Township, there’s a request for a half mill hike for 5 years to pay for fire protection and equipment.
The city of Bronson has a pair of proposals which ask whether or not the city should sell properties designated for city expansion and for cemetery expansion, and in both cases, it’s property that is no longer needed for expansion.
