DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - General Motors will pay a $35-million fine over its recalls of millions of cars and trucks. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx criticized GM today for delaying its response to widespread problems involving faulty ignition switches. He said, crashes happened and people died. The defective switches have been linked to more than a dozen deaths.
In agreeing to pay the fine, Foxx said GM is acknowledging that it broke the law by keeping quiet about the problem for several years. This week, GM announced five new recall campaigns covering nearly three-million vehicles over problems with brakes and tail lights.
