Memorial Day ceremonies Monday part of busy weekend for Branch County

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - While Monday's Memorial Day parades and services in the area will be a time to honor those who have fallen in service to our country, they are just one part of a long list of activities in the area this weekend. The 8th annual Branch County Civil War Days began Thursday evening with guided tours at the Oak Grove Cemetery and continued with Education Day for 800 5th and 8th graders from around the county at Heritage Park Friday. Civil War Days activities wlll take place both Saturday and Sunday at Heritage Park, including a reenactment of the the Battle of Chickamunga both days at 2 pm. One of the biggest Memorial Day parades in the area will be held in Union City beginning at 10:30 am Monday. Line-up will begin at 9:30 am at the high school. Services will be held at Riverside Cemetery following the parade, with the guest speakers Union City graduates Drew Hoppe and Makalya Stuart.

Coldwater's Memorial Day activities get underway Monday with an open house at American Legion Post #52 at 7:30 am, a program in the Four Corners Park at 8:30 am with guest speaker Marine Corps Colonel Tim Murphy, the Lost At Sea Dedication at 9:40 am, ceremonies at the old Oak Grove Cemetery at 9:50 am, the Gathering of Flags Memorial ceremony at Flag Hill at 10:30 am, and a luncheon at the American Legion Post #52 at 11:30 am. We'll have a live broadcast of the ceremonies at the Four Corners Park and Oak Grove Cemetery beginning at 8 am Monday.

The Montgomery American Legion will have Memorial Day services Monday at 11 am at Berg Cemetery on Long Lake Road at the railroad tracks and at 12 noon at California Corners Cemetery on Ray-Quincy Road, just south of Copeland Road.
