COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, post-season play begins today in baseball, softball, and girls soccer with MHSAA first round district tournament action. None of the county baseball and softball teams are scheduled to play until Saturday in the semi-finals with Coldwater hosting Division Two District tournaments while Quincy, Bronson, and Union City will compete in Division Four at Constantine.
In girls soccer tonight, Coldwater has an opening round Division Two match at home against Charlotte starting at 6 o’clock. The winner advances to play Eaton Rapids at 5 pm Thursday at Spring Arbor University in the Parma Western District semi-finals. And Quincy is hosting a Division Four District and they play tonight against Springport at 5:30. The winner moves on to face Battle Creek Calhoun Christian in Thursday’s semi-finals at 6 pm.
Elsewhere on today’s high school sports schedule, in track, it’s the annual Branch Area Best meet at Quincy beginning at 4 o’clock. In baseball, Quincy hosts Lenawee Christian and in baseball and softball, it’s Union City at Constantine.
Over the weekend, in baseball, it was the Bronson Polish Classic, including Union City. In the semi-finals, Bronson beat Union City 8-4. Daniel McMichael was the winning pitcher while Seth Bruce took the loss. Philip Mandoka had 3 hits in the victory including 2 doubles and 2 rbi’s while Cody Cable had 2 hits for Union City. In the title game, Bronson fell 8-6 to Niles. Tyler Roussey suffered the defeat while Chase Carpenter had 2 hits and an rbi. The Vikings record is 18-13. Union City dropped its consolation game to Berrien Springs 4-0.
